Poetry from a Restless Teenage Mind

When Words Don't Reach
When Words Don’t Reach is a collection of poems I wrote when everything felt too loud, too complicated, or just… too much. Most of them came together late at night, when the world finally got quiet and I could actually hear myself think. It’s messy, emotional, honest, and sometimes even kind of funny. These poems helped me make sense of growing up, overthinking everything, and feeling like I don’t always fit. If you’ve ever felt that way too, I hope something in here speaks to you.
Because sometimes, when words don’t reach, poetry does.

About Scarlett Lily
Hi! I’m Scarlett Lily, and I’ve been writing poetry since I was seven. Writing has always been my escape from the real world. It’s helped me cope with my feelings in nonviolent ways, and I know that not everyone gets such an opportunity.
I grew up in Los Angeles, California, in a family of Polish heritage. I’ve attended private school most of my life, but making friends has never been hard for me—people usually describe me as a well-rounded kid.
When I’m not writing, I’m playing the saxophone, acting in local theater, and geeking out in science class. I also know just about every Broadway tune by heart—especially Hamilton.
